Super Bowl LVI Uniforms, Logos, and More!

The Cincinnati Bengals, as the designated home team for Super Bowl LVI, will get the first choice of what uniform they’ll be wearing for the game. Likely, they would go with their standard home set, which is their black jersey paired with either their white pants or black pants. The Bengals also have an orange jersey option, which they can wear if the NFL gives their permission, but if Cincy chooses to wear their darks, they’ll probably go with their regular home blacks with white pants. However, the Bengals could do as other lower-seeded Super Bowl teams have done in the past and opt to wear their road uniforms instead, to keep on going with the same uniforms they’d be wearing throughout the NFL Playoffs.

As for the Los Angeles Rams, despite playing in their home stadium, they will be the road team for Super Bowl LVI, which means they’re at the mercy of the Bengals when it comes to uniform choices. If Cincinnati opts to wear white, the Rams *have* to wear their blue tops (which they’d prefer, I’m sure!). Much like the Bengals, the Rams wore just one set throughout their playoff run in 2021 — that is, their royal blue tops with yellow “sol” pants — there’s no doubt in my mind that they would love the opportunity to keep that pairing going into the Super Bowl.

Things get slightly more complicated for Los Angeles if Cincinnati chooses to wear black or orange jerseys. The Rams would select one of their two different white jerseys (the road “bone” option or alternate “retro white”), once they settle on a jersey, they would then choose between one of their three different pant colours (bone white, royal blue, or sol yellow). So… shrug? My prediction is they’d choose to wear their alternate “retro white” tops paired with their “yellow sol” pants in this case if Cincinnati forces them to go light.

Here, let’s flowchart this:

Does that help? I never thought we’d need a flowchart for Super Bowl uniforms.

Super Bowl LVI Primary Logo
The Super Bowl LVI logo was designed by the National Football League’s graphic design department. It continues the basic theme first used for Super Bowl XLV in February 2011, and it again places focus on the Vince Lombardi Trophy with the SUPER BOWL wordmark placed across a metallic bar. There are differences this year versus previous Super Bowl logos in that they’ve now incorporated some graphics into the Roman numerals — in this case a silhouette of palm trees (no, they’re not gunshot wounds, as many on social media had suggested) — as well as some much-needed colour, a red-to-yellow gradient representing a sunset.

There are no alternate logos for the Super Bowl, just slight variations of the primary, including some with the host city of Los Angeles written below the logo. There is a little colour change to the “Los Angeles” bit when that specific version of the logo is placed on a dark background.

This is now the twelfth Super Bowl game since the NFL went to the standardized system for the game during the 2010 season. For our younger readers, there was a time when the Super Bowl was given a unique design every year; it was kinda fun waiting to see what the logo would look like each year!

I loved that era. After all, I would be able to remember the details of each game a lot better because I could associate teams and big plays with the unique logo for each game. Like, I immediately know the Arizona Cardinals played in Super Bowl XLIII because I remember that green and blue patch on their jerseys, or that the Pittsburgh Steelers won Super Bowl XL, again because of the patch — you look at the logo for Super Bowl XXVIII, and there’s no mistaking that it was played in Atlanta, Georgia. We don’t get that anymore.

The AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals will be the designated home team for Super Bowl LVI.

The NFL rotates back-and-forth between the NFC and AFC champion to determine each year’s home team. Last year for Super Bowl LV, the NFC champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the home team, this year, it’s the AFC champion Bengals, and next year for Super Bowl LVII, it’ll be the NFC champion again. One way to remember it is even-numbered bowls are AFC years, and odd-numbered bowls go to the NFC.

If it’s an Olympic year, you see,
The Super Bowl home team is from the AFC.

The Super Bowl LVI program cover resembles a Hollywood movie poster. It reads “STARRING” across the top with the two participating teams listed below; there’s also that stacked text that always accompanies movie posters re-worked to be themed towards the game and host city.

This year, the Super Bowl will be held at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, home of the NFC Champion Los Angeles Rams. The Rams are just the second team in NFL history to play in a Super Bowl held at their home stadium. Oddly enough, the first time it ever happened was just last year when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers played the Kansas City Chiefs at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, during Super Bowl LV.

Super Bowl LVI will be held on Sunday, February 13, 2022; kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 pm ET (3:30 pm PT).

We’ve yet to see the field design for Super Bowl LVI; given that the NFC Championship Game was just played at SoFi Stadium, it might take a few days before the painting can be completed. We’ll update this post as soon as a field design has been revealed.

The halftime show for Super Bowl LVI will feature a series of 1990s rappers, including Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, and the more recent Kendrick Lamar.
