Bengals are official home team for Super Bowl LVI at SoFi Stadium

For the second straight season, one of the NFL teams in the Super Bowl will be playing in their home stadium. However, it will be the Cincinnati Bengals (+4.5)

in Super Bowl LVI due to a technicality.

The NFL alternates which team between the AFC and NFC are home and away. Last year, The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosted the Kansas City Chiefs in their stadium. The Bucs happened to actually be the home team, which means that got swapped this season.

What does that mean? Well the home team gets to choose what uniform they will wear for Super Bowl. That is pretty much it. There was speculation floating around that they would have the Rams’ locker room, but since Los Angeles also hosts the Chargers, the Bengals will be in that locker room instead.

Bet on the Bengals to win Super Bowl 56 at DraftKings Sportsbook
The Rams — as the visitors — get to call the coin toss to start the games and at the start of overtime if applicable.

Post-game update: The Rams are officially headed to Super Bowl 56 with a three-point victory over the 49ers at SoFi Stadium. Mathew Stafford pulled up with 337 passing yards, 2 TDs and an interception to close out the game, while Cooper Kupp continued to shine with a 11/142/2 performance. They’ll be the second team in history to play a Super Bowl at their home stadium.

The 2022 NFC Championship game will feature the Los Angeles Rams playing host to the San Francisco 49ers. The game is set for Sunday, January 30th from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m. ET. The game will air on FOX.

The Rams were the talk of the preseason with their acquisition of Matthew Stafford, but will that be enough to carry them to a win over the 49ers to be Super Bowl-bound? All odds are courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.

Rams odds to win 2022 NFC Championship
Opening odds to win NFC Championship: +650
Current odds: -180

While Stafford was the talk of the town when he flew south for the season from Detroit, he can’t be given all of the team’s credit for their standing. Trade deadline moves by the team for Von Miler and Odell Beckham Jr. helped solidify their team on both sides of the ball. Combine that from good seasons from wide receiver Cooper Kupp and defensive back Jalen Ramsey, and we have the Rams winning the NFC West in 2021.

The Rams were in the Super Bowl just three years ago so this wouldn’t be new territory for them. Being divisional opponents with the 49ers, this will be a familiar foe. Unfortunately, the Rams lost both of the regular-season meetings between these two teams. The Rams are primed to get their win when it counts and with the amount of talent they have on both sides of the ball, it is easy to see why they are the -180 favorites heading into the game.

It is just a funny concept that the Rams will go into this game technically as a visitor despite playing their entire season there. It also will make for some hilarious jokes if Cincinnati ends up winning. This just seems like the NFL getting ahead of quarterback Joe Burrow and the Bengals making SoFi Stadium their own after they get the team’s first Super Bowl victory in franchise history.

Hopefully enough Bengals fans — and people rooting for Cincinnati — are able to make the trip. It would serve Los Angeles right after they limited ticket sales for the NFC Championship game against the 49ers.

Post-game update: Matthew Stafford and the Rams managed a three-point victory, sealed with an interception from Jimmy Garoppolo late in the fourth quarter. The Rams will go on to face the Bengals at their home stadium.

The San Francisco 49ers are ready to take on a familiar opponent in the NFC Championship game this weekend in the Los Angeles Rams. This will be the third meeting this season of these NFC West divisional rivals, but it will certainly be the most important. Kickoff from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California will be at 6:30 p.m. ET with the game airing on FOX.

Let’s take a look at how the Niners’ season projections began and where they have ended up. All odds are courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.

49ers odds to win 2022 NFC Championship
Preseason odds to win NFC Championship: +650
Current odds: +155

The 49ers posted a 6-10 record in the 2020 regular season, which helped them finish in last place for the NFC West. With no huge draft picks or free-agent signings, expectations weren’t very high for 2021 in a super competitive division. Then, head coach Kyle Shanahan figured out how to unlock wide receiver Deebo Samuel and the 49ers turned their season around.

The Niners finished with a 10-7 record and third in the NFC West, but it was good enough for them to enter the NFC playoffs as the No. 6 seed. They won only two divisional games in the regular season, but guess who they were against? Yep! The 49ers beat the Rams in Week 10, 31-10, and then again in Week 18, 27-24 in overtime. Even still, they head into the NFC Championship game as the underdogs with +155 odds.
